SIMPLY FRESH LLC. VOLUNTARILY RECALLS ROJOS BLACK BEAN LAYER DIP 2/20oz PRODUCT BECAUSE OF POSSIBLE HEALTH RISK

Simply Fresh LLC. is voluntarily recalling its Rojo’s Black Bean 6 Layer Dip 2-20oz Club Pack. This voluntary recall is being initiated as a result of the Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. recall of cotija cheese due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. Simply Fresh used the recalled cotija cheese from Rizo Lopez Foods, Inc. in the Rojos Black Bean Layer Dips with the date codes listed in the table below. This recall only impacts the items pictured below. The product is sold only at Costco.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause severe and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short- term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

HOW TO IDENTIFY THE RECALLED PRODUCT:
The 2/20oz container has the “Best If Use By” dates stated below printed on the side of each container and the lot number stated for each product on the side or the lid (see attached pictures). This voluntary recall applies only to the products with the “Best If Use By” dates stated below.

A total of 7,350 cases were distributed to Costco stores in Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Washington, and Utah. To date, there are no harmful effects reported from our product.

Product safety and consumer confidence are of utmost importance to Simply Fresh LLC and its customers. Consumers who have purchased the recalled products listed above are urged to dispose of them immediately.

Consumers can call 1(800) 755-9925 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm ET, Monday through Friday.

This voluntary recall is being done with the knowledge of the Food and Drug Administration.

On February 7, 2024, Simply Fresh LLC issued a voluntary recall of their product Rojo’s Black Bean 6 Layer Dip 2-20oz Club Pack produced for Costco.

2. Why is Simply Fresh issuing this voluntary recall?
This voluntary material recall was initiated as a precaution after Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. issued a recall of their dairy products, which may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Simply Fresh used the recalled dairy products from Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. in Rojo’s Black Bean 6 Layer Dip 2-20oz Club Pack.

3. How many other products are impacted by this voluntary recall?
This voluntary recall is an isolated incident; no other Simply Fresh products were affected by the possible contamination of Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. dairy products.

4. How should I dispose of Rojo’s Black Bean Dip?
You should immediately discard any impacted product if you have it.

5. How do I identify the lot number?
The 2/20oz container has the “Best If Use By” dates stated below printed on the side of each container and the lot number stated for each product on the side or the lid (see attached pictures). This recall applies only to the products with the “Best If Use By” dates stated below. It is impacting products in three regions: Northwest, Southeast, and Eastern Canada.

6. Are you going to compensate consumers for the product?
Consumers who purchased the recalled product are urged to dispose of it immediately or return it to their local Costco for a full refund.

7. Has anyone died or reported being sick because of Rojo’s Black Bean Dip?
To date, no illnesses related to our products have been reported.

8. My child/spouse/myself is/are sick from eating this; what do I do?
If you are feeling sick, you should immediately seek medical attention.

9. What is Simply Fresh doing about this voluntary recall?
Product safety and consumer confidence remain our top priorities. Because of this, we are diligently working with Costco to quarantine and dispose of the impacted items remaining on store shelves.

10. Will Simply Fresh reimburse distributors and customers who purchased Rojo’s Black Bean 6 Layer Dip 2- 20oz Club Pack?
Consumers who purchased the recalled product are urged to dispose of it immediately or return it to their local Costco for a full refund.

11. How long will it take for Simply Fresh to bring the product back into the market?
We anticipate the products returning on the market the week of February 12, 2024.

12. Has Simply Fresh encountered any previous health and safety code violations of Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. products?
No.

13. Will Simply Fresh be using Rizo Lopez Foods Inc. in future products?
No.
